In his role as regional editorial director and co-owner of Lighthouse Independent Media, Tony Kelly leads the content direction of the company as well as training and development of all journalists and editorial managers.
A trained journalist himself, Kelly has been a partner in the Lighthouse business for six years before which he was a reporter, editor, consultant and editorial manager working both inside and externally with a number of major Australian media organisations including News Limited and Fairfax. Before joining Lighthouse in early 2006, Kelly was working as a managing editor across the Media and Travel group titles within Reed Business Information in Sydney.
Kelly's specialty lies in adapting old media models to the new media landscape and now trains the editorial teams within Lighthouse to adapt their skills to online, social and collaborative media models in order to grow and diversify the business. All new editorial launches are run by Kelly, who still takes a hands on approach on any new and developing title.
Kelly graduated from Charles Sturt University with a degree in mass communications in 1993. This led to gigs on daily newspapers before ending up in business magazines and catching the editing bug.
Originally a country boy, Tony grew up in country New South Wales before moving to Sydney, where he spent 16 years before moving to Asia. He currently lives in Hong Kong where he moved in 2010 after a year long stint in Kuala Lumpur where he ran the newly established Malaysia office and launched Advertising + Marketing.
